HOPES AND FEARS — RICHARD DAVIES
16 APRIL — 11 JUNE 2022
Richard’s work is informed and inspired by his interests in, history, ecology, sociology, meditation, spirituality and a deep adoration of nature, with its constant dance of seasonal changing light and colour. The prints of his work on display reflect two distinct styles. The more conventional landscape/townscape style of his past work, and a new style of painting, which is to construct compositions, from a combination of imagination, emotion, and inspired concepts of the world in general. As in the print of an acrylic original called HOPE (Covid vaccine & planting trees).
Richard Davies was born in Cardiff and has lived in Greenmeadow Cwmbran, since 1966.
Richard spent the first 16 years of his life working life within industry. He completed a five year apprenticeship, during which he attained City & Guilds qualifications in Geometry and Technical drawing, from Nash Technical College Newport. After doing this Richard became a Sheetmetal worker & Patternmaker. Later in his early thirties he pursued a career as an Artist, developing a lifelong passion and hobby. Richard attended Pontypool College and completed an Art foundation course, and then secured a placement on a HND Illustration course at Carmarthen College of Art.
Since then, he has been working as a professional artist. Richard has completed diverse private commissions, exhibited, sold numerous artworks, and completed a few large Art Council of Wales funded, community inclusive public works of art. These days he avoids commissioned work, preferring to concentrate on his own artwork and retail sales of framed prints & cards.
Richard has a garden studio, where he paints in various mediums, making and painting his own frames from upcycled timber and old picture frames. He also creates some artwork from foraged timber, scrap metal and stone.
