ART PARTY

A day of celebration full of creative activities, talks, and cake to mark 60 years as an arts centre in Cwmbran!
Alongside our open exhibition Llantarnam Grange 60 mlynedd | years that includes work from 145 artists in Gallery 1, and the history exhibition Gelli Las in Gallery 2, there will be a mixture of drop-in activities, Urban Sketching workshop, birthday cake, and talks that look back into our history and past exhibitions.
This is part of Llantarnam Grange 60, a year-long celebration of 60 years of creativity in Cwmbran. Funded by the Colwinston Charitable Trust.
PROGRAMME
GALLERY 1
Paper Fold Galleries, 10 – 11.30am
Free drop-in session making mini paper fold galleries full of miniture masterpieces! Create your own gallery surrounded by our open exhibition in Gallery 1.
This activity is for young and old alike! Children need to be supervised at all times and aged 5 +
All materials will be provided.
Feel free to pop in for 10 minutes, or stay for a few hours.

GALLERY 2
Bunting Making, 10am – 1pm
Add to our birthday decorations with free drop-in bunting making in Gallery 2!

LEARNING ROOM
Urban Sketching, 10am – 1pm
Join artist Gary Yeung to explore everyday scenes through urban sketching. Starting in our Learning Room, Gary will give you an introduction into the origin of urban sketching, his work, and share some of his techniques for sketching complicated scenes.
You will then have the chance to go out into the town to document your surroundings.
Drawing materials and paper will be available, but feel free to bring your own!
This activities are for adults and young people aged 16+

GALLERY 1
Penblwydd Hapus i ti, 12pm
Join the team for a birthday toast and slice of cake made by our incredible in-house café!
Please note that our café will be closed for 15-20 minutes to allow staff to join in with the festivities at 12pm.
Llantarnam Grange Café will be open from 9.30am – 4pm with a special seasonal menu and last food orders at 2.30pm.

GALLERY 1
History Talk, 12.30 – 1.30pm
Join director Louise Jones-Williams to find out more about the history of Llantarnam Grange, from its links to Llantarnam Abbey to the present day.
This talk goes alongside our history exhibition Gelli Las in Gallery 2, which is on display until 30 May.

Pom Pom Poet, 1-3pm
Artist Naseem Syed will be in our foyer spreading some colourful joy and kindness through pom poms! Stop by for a chat and add your own message or affirmation to pass on.
Naseem Syed is a Welsh-Persian multidisciplinary artist creating playful participatory experiences through craft, colour, and conversation, inviting people to pause, connect, and share radical kindness.

GALLERY 1
Artist Talks: Past Exhibitions, 2 – 3.30pm
Artists Adéọlá Dewis, Becky Adams, Laura Thomas, and Billy Adams will look back at their past exhibitions, projects, and work at Llantarnam Grange, as a way to reflect on how their different practices have evolved over the years.
These short talks will be followed by an in conversation with current director Louise Jones-Williams.
