Artist Talk / Demonstration: Toni De Jesus

GALLERY 1 / LEARNING ROOM
ARTIST TALK / DEMONSTRATION: TONI DE JESUS
8 FEBRUARY, 10AM – 12PM

On Saturday 8 February ceramic artist Toni De Jesus will be giving a talk and tour of his current exhibition Cacúlo, followed by a demonstration of some of his processes. Starting with a walk through in Gallery 1, Toni will then demonstrate his coiling technique, upstairs in our Learning Room.

Toni’s work exists in the space between tradition and breaking with tradition, functionality and non-functionality, craftsmanship and idea-based art. He is driven by a desire for connection, and explores themes of place, memory, and loss; which are core elements of his migrant experience.

Through this talk and demonstration, Toni will consider storytelling and the integration of local materials, such as sand, rocks, sediments and clays that have been used with ceramics throughout Maderia’s 600-year history.

Book a free place via Eventbrite here, or contact reception on 01633 483321 or email [email protected] to book your place.
