CELEBRATING NOWROUZ WITH ART

Join artist Sahar Saki in a celebration of Iranian New Year through a series of creative activities that explore different parts of Persian culture.

 

This immersive experience of Nowrouz traditions includes calligraphy, music, poetry and stamp-making.

 

These activities go alongside Sahar’s current exhibition Persian Tour which is on display in Gallery 2 until 17 May

 

Some of these activities will take place in our Learning Room. This is located on our first floor. Unfortunately, we do not have disabled access to this floor.

PROGRAMME

Persian Movement + Tea Ceremony, 10am – 12pm

Gallery 2

 

In this introduction to expressive movement, Sahar will guide you to explore how you can move in response to Persian rhythms.

 

Please note, this is not a formal dance class, and we suggest that you wear comfortable clothes that allow for easy movement.

 

This will be followed by a tea ceremony served with Iranian sweets and nuts, which are traditionally enjoyed during Nowruz. Sahar will demonstrate how to make Persian tea and give readings of poems by Hafez and Rumi.

 

This session is for adults and young people 16 +

Persian Calligraphy + Pattern Making, 1-3.30pm

Learning Room

 

Starting with an introduction on writing in Persian script, this session is a chance to explore different calligraphy techniques and to use your skills to design and create a personalised Persian-style stamp of your name!

 

You do not need to have any previous knowledge of the Persian language.

 

This session is for adults and young people 16 +

 

Places are limited and pre-booking is essential.

Llantarnam Grange Café will be serving Persian-inspired specials, including Fesenjan Stew, Cinnamon Date Omelette, and Cardamom Latte.

 

Food Served from 9.30am – 3.30pm, with last orders at 2.30pm.
