The Terror

GALLERY 2
THE TERROR
30 NOVEMBER – 15 FEBRUARY

An exhibition of illustration by artist and musician Jon Langford.

Newport publishers Three Impostors have commissioned artist and musician Jon Langford to illustrate their new edition of The Terror, Arthur Machen’s short novel, in which nature turns on humanity. This new edition is introduced by award-winning horror and dark fantasy writer Tim Lebbon.

The Terror was first published in 1917 when the horror of the Great War was at its height. It is widely believed that The Terror is the source inspiration for Alfred Hitchcock’s classic 1963 film The Birds. A concept which can also be traced back through stories of the same name by Daphne du Maurier (1952) and Frank Baker (1936).

Jon’s illustrations will be on display in Gallery 2, bringing the short novel to life.

There will be an opening in the gallery on Saturday 30 November, 4-6pm, and the exhibition will run until the 15 February 2025.

Alongside this we are hosting an acoustic performance from Jon Langford & the Men of Gwent in our foyer on Saturday 30 November, 7pm. Limited tickets on sale on now via Eventbrite
