ABOUT

Jon Langford is a musician and artist born in Newport. Jon was the original drummer for the punk band the Mekons who incorporated folk and country music into punk rock. Jon has also released numerous recordings as a solo artist and with other bands, most notably the Waco Brothers, Skull Orchard, as well as his Men of Gwent.

When Jon first moved to Chicago in 1992 it was important for him to form a band in Newport, so he could stay connected to his roots, and return for band meetings in the Riverside Pub.

Previously known as LL, Jon Langford & his Men of Gwent are with local label Country Mile. Their first release The Legend of Ll in 2015 shares songs about their hometown, written together transatlantically and occasionally in person. Their second album President of Wales was released in November 2019.

They have played major festivals including Green Man, Glastonbury and the legendary Busk on the Usk. Jon still lives in Chicago but flies back to play gigs, record and to just sit around with his Men of Gwent.
