SUMMER CREATIVE ACTIVITIES
22 JULY – 27 AUGUST 2025

 

This summer we are running 6 weeks of free creative activities for all ages and abilities! Each week is themed around a different part of our programme, from current exhibitions, community projects, and more!

 

Families, adults, and individuals welcome. Children need to be supervised at all times and aged 5 +

 

All Tuesday sessions have limited spaces and pre-booking is essential. Please note that the morning and afternoon session are the same, so select one slot when booking.

WEEK 1

Experiment with foil embossing and creating symbols to make your own amulets and tokens.

 

This week takes inspiration from the bronze-cast amulets in our current exhibition Agimat by artist Sadia Pineda Hameed.

WEEK 2

Create miniature paintings and drawings inspired by home and nature.

 

Through looking at the work of artist Emma Lou Andrews, who is currently exhibiting in our cafe, we will combine patterns and animals to experiment with mini-making!

WEEK 3

Draw and collage fairy tale scenes inspired by Clive Hicks-Jenkins’ retelling of Hansel & Gretel.

 

This week is a taster of the activities on offer at Craft Festival Wales which will be in Cardigan from 5 – 7 September. This is also an early celebration of Clive’s upcoming exhibition GWRACH | WITCH at Oriel Myrddin Gallery.

WEEK 4

Explore textiles through simple stitching or needle felting to celebrate the wildlife of our local woodlands!

 

These sessions are part of the Greater Gwent BioTapestry, an ambitious community project that will create a 70 metre tapestry to celebrate our incredible ecosystems and the species that live in the different habitats across Gwent.

This is a Gwent Green Grid Partnership project and is supported by the Heritage Lottery Nature Networks Fund and the Shared Prosperity Fund.

WEEK 5

Continue to stitch and sew species from our local waterways! Learn more about the aquatic creatures that live in our streams and rivers through simple stitching and needle felting.

WEEK 6

Create mixed media jewellery and badges inspired by food!

 

To celebrate Torfaen Food Trail, this week takes inspiration from local food and our cafe’s seasonal menu, to the last thing you ate or the dinner of your dreams!
